Electricity

The Electricity Coordination Office is entrusted with managing and regulating the electricity sector in the Judea and Samaria areas. Within this framework, the office works with the Israel Electric Corporation and the Jerusalem District Electricity Company in connecting, handling repairs and promoting of electrical plans for the welfare of the residents.

The office provides an immediate response to power problems all over Judea and Samaria, and coordinates the arrival of teams to repair hazards and malfunctions. In extreme weather conditions and snowstorms, the office operates around the clock in order to serve the population.

The office promotes, through the institutions of the Civil Administration, electrical plans for Palestinian villages that are not yet connected, such as Daher Al-Maleh. Additionally, the office operates to promote regulation of electricity generation from renewable energies as part of the plan to advance environmental efficiency and generate electricity in private facilities as part of the Green Power Ordinance (solar power).

The Civil Administration works in cooperation with the Ministry of Defense and Ministry of National Infrastructures to use natural gas in the area.

In 2016 the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories, Major General Yoav (Poli) Mordechai, along with his Palestinian counterparts, signed the electrical agreement which regulated the payment of the Palestinian debt to the Israel Electric Corporation and also permitted the establishment of an independent body to promote the energy sector at the Palestinian Authority.
