The economy in Bethlehem is fueled by its tourism and hotel industry, which has over 40 hotels in the area. Bethlehem holds many historical sites, such as Solomon’s pools, the Way of the Patriarchs, Herodian, the Tomb of Rachel, the Church of the Nativity, the Holy Lavra of Saint Sabbas the Sanctified and other sites which attracts millions of tourists and visitors from around the world. Every year, the Bethlehem DCL coordinates traditional events taking place during Christmas and Ramadan, as part of promoting freedom of religion and observance.

Another notable area of the Bethlehem region is the stone industry which includes over 200 stone and marble quarries, which makes a significant impact on the local economy. These goods exported to Israel and around the world as part of the coordination activities promoted by the Bethlehem DCL.

The Bethlehem DCL cooperates with the international community in order to promote projects for the local population, such as: paving roads and highways within the city, renovating access paths for agricultural fields in Khirbet Tzafa, constructing water lines from Gush Etzion to Hebron, connecting Rachel’s Tomb to water lines, establishing an active waste disposal site in Almania funded by the World Bank and additional projects in the area.
