Maj. Gen. Yoav (Poly) Mordechai, met with the United States Middle East envoy, Mr. Jason Greenblatt, at the Gilboa Crossing

Today, COGAT Coordinator Yoav (Poly) Mordechai met with US envoy, Jason Greenblatt, to visit the Gilboa Crossing. They discussed economic initiatives led by Israel to develop the Palestinian economy and the cooperation of all sides to preserve stability in the region.

The visit was joined by the Minister of Transportation and Road Safety, Mr. Israel Katz; the Head of the Civil Administration in Judea and Samaria, Brig. Gen. Achvat Ben-Hur; and the Head of the Land Crossings Authority in the Ministry of Defense, Brig. Gen. (res.) Kamil Abu Rokon.

During the visit, the Coordinator reviewed the situation in northern Samaria from the security, economic and civilian aspects—as well as the initiatives led by Israel—as part of the civil policy to develop the economy and welfare in the area. Among these initiatives: the Jalame industrial zone, an electrical substation that was recently activated, and upcoming initiatives such as a power plant and a railway track in the near future.

The Coordinator emphasized that "the security situation, as well as the civil and security coordination, are the foundation of all cooperation between Israel and the Palestinian Authority. Israel is leading initiatives and projects to develop the economy, as part of the steps to strengthen the security stability in the area, which is a common interest on both sides; but first and foremost, a Palestinian interest”.
