In regards to the situations in Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria, the Minister said that the status quo on the Temple Mount has been maintained and slammed the head of the Palestinian Authority saying “Abu Mazen is misleading all Palestinians”.

Israel’s Minister of Defense, Avigdor Liberman, gave an exclusive interview today to COGAT’ website. The Defense Minister opened the interview by revealing that Israel knew exactly which operatives of the Islamic Jihad terror group were behind the firing of rockets at Israel last Friday (30.12.17). The Minister clarified that Israel would do whatever is necessary to stop the firing of rockets and demanded from the regime in Gaza to take control of the situation in the Strip. He then addressed Gazans directly saying “Make your rulers change direction for your children’s sake, not for Israel’s.”

Regarding the terror organization Hamas, Defense Minister Liberman made clear that it was their responsibility to approach Israel in order to reach agreement on the matter of prisoners of war and MIA’s, and made clear that the only way to rehabilitate, invest, and make the Gaza Strip prosper was if the Gaza Strip was demilitarized. The Minister affirmed that “The time has come to stop digging terror tunnels and developing rockets, the time has come to think about the future of Gaza’s children.” The Minister made clear that investment in Gaza’s infrastructure will not be paid for by Israeli taxpayers and that the damage of investment in terror, and not Gaza’s infrastructure, will be revealed this weekend with the upcoming stormy weather.

Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman finished the interview by clarifying that beyond the shadow of a doubt the status quo on the Temple Mount and freedom of religion in the region have and will be preserved. The Minister stressed that those taking part of riots over the last few weeks are operatives of Tanzim or the Palestinian Authority and receive a salary for participating and are not the Palestinian residents of Judea and Samaria, that are “Much smarter than the their leaders.” They understand that their situation is much better than those in Gaza or other places, stressed the Minister. In connection to this, the Minister of Defense slammed the head of the Palestinian Authority, saying “Abu Mazen is misleading all Palestinians whether in Gaza, Judea, Samaria or abroad.” The Minister concluded that “There is no alternative to direct negoatation. The ball is in thier court. If the Palestinians want to sit down, we will sit to tlak. If they don’t want, there is no need. We will ensure economic stablity in Judea and Samaria and freedom of worship. Everything else is up to them.”
