Last Thursday (4.1.18), the Israeli Magen David Adom (MDA) held a reception ceremony for five new bulletproof ambulances, which were donated by Sheldon and Dr. Miriam Adelson, at a cost of NIS 1 million per ambulance.

The Israeli Home Front Command gave instructions to MDA on how to protect the new ambulances from gunfire. The ambulances uses special equipment that does not overload their weight and doe not affect the speed of the ambulances travel. These new Chevrolet ambulances can also be used as an ICU.

The paramedics and medics of MDA, who will be driving these bullet-proof ambulances, underwent a training course that prepared them for the various threatening situations and potential attacks that may be aimed at these vehicles. The ambulances will operate in Judea and Samaria, as well as on Israel’s northern border and in the vicinity of the Gaza Strip.

In addition, the ambulances are expected to provide medical response to terror attacks while ensuring the medical team arrives safely to scenes that may not yet be sufficiently secure. The safety that these bulletproof ambulances provide will create a safe space for patients and medical teams.

"We must remember that the Magen David Adom, in addition to being the national rescue organization of the State of Israel, also operates in international frameworks and works in cooperation with the International Red Cross and the Palestinian Red Crescent," said Eli Bin, MDA Director General. MDA operates and continues to serve the entire population.”

On this special occasion Dr. Adelson shared her sorrow saying "It is sad that Israel's enemies feel no hesitation to fire or throw stones at vehicles, whose only purpose is to provide medical assistance in Judea and Samaria." Adelson went on to explain that " MDA does not deal only with Jews. Many Palestinians are also treated by the Israeli Ambulance Service.”
