Palestinian Soccer Team Victorious 2:1 in Match Against Oman

Last night, the Palestinian soccer team scored a 2:1 victory over the Omani team in the initial qualification rounds for the 2019 AFC Asia Cup, which will take place in the United Arab Emirates. The Palestinian team hosted the game at the Faisal al-Husseini Stadium in al-Ram, near Ramallah. The return game between the two teams will take place in March of 2018, in Oman, and will determine which team will advance to the next stage.

Jonathan Zorilla scored the first goal after 13 minutes for the Palestinian team and Yaser Islame added another with a powerful shot from the penalty area, which gave the hosting team an early 2:0 lead. After 44 minutes, Ahmed Mubarak scored the last goal of the match for the Omanis, making it 2:1.

The game was characterized by its sportsmanship and enthusiastic atmosphere while the two teams played in a serious and professional manner, but the second half was less exciting—with the Palestinian team mostly on the defense and the Omani team relentlessly tried to even up the score, albeit without much success. In the end, the game ended with a victory for the Palestinian national team, which will now begin to prepare for the important return game in Oman. The upcoming return game will determine who will advance to the next stage of the qualifying games for the 2019 AFC Asia Cup.

Prior to the game, the Omani team arrived to Judea and Samaria from Jordan through the Allenby Bridge Terminal, without any delays or difficulties because of the coordination between Israel and the Palestinians on this matter.

During a press conference that followed the match, the manager of the Palestinian team, Abd al-Naser Barakat, praised his players performance during the game and said the Palestinian team deserved its win over an Omani team which is considered one of the best teams in their group. Barakat also noted that “The Palestinian team played a great first-half, scoring two goals in the half, and we could have scored more, but this changed during the second half”.

We congratulate the Palestinian team on their victory and we wish them the best of luck in their match in Oman in order to qualify for the 2019 AFC Asia Cup.
